Course Area Physical Education/Health

The Physical Education program at St. Paul Preparatory School is based upon the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and behaviors that are the foundation of engaging in physical activity. Our mission is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Students will have a choice of a wide variety of physical activities and challenges to engage in that will contribute to the development and maintenance of their physical, cognitive, and effective well being. All courses are one semester in length, and course choices will include units in strength and endurance training, team sports, individual physical activities, dance, yoga, and aquatics.

Applied Health (one semester)

Applied Health focuses on preparing students who may be interested in pursuing a health-related career, whether that be in the field of medicine, nutrition, or athletics. The course will move swiftly through foundational health concepts and spend more time delving deeper into the areas of anatomy, physiology, exercise science, nutrition, injury management, and emergency response training. You must have taken a foundational health course in order to enroll in this course.

Health Topics (one semester)

Students will acquire knowledge in all areas of wellness and apply that knowledge through projects that will challenge them to make healthier choices for themselves. Topics this course will cover more extensively are nutrition, fitness, personal and public safety, injury management, substance use and abuse, and sexual health. There are no prerequisites to take this course.
