Preparing for SPP

St. Paul Preparatory School is a unique educational environment for students. Here are some things to keep in mind before you start school:

Be friendly. Most of the students at St. Paul Preparatory School (SPP) are international students. Many of them are away from home for the first time and living with Host Families. A smile and a warm welcome from other students can go a long way to helping them feel comfortable at SPP, and it is a great way to make new friends!

Be understanding of your peers. We ask that all international students speak English throughout the school day. Some students are more diligent about this than others. It is helpful to be patient and recognize that living in another country and speaking a non-native language is tiring and can be intimidating. Maybe strike up a conversation and help them practice their English!

Work Hard. SPP is a college preparatory school with small class sizes. You will get to know your teachers well, and they will know you, so “coasting” through high school won’t work very well here. Our teaching staff has designated office hours when students can come in and get some help on your homework!

Get involved! We offer a lot of opportunities outside the classroom and unique extra-curricular activities, such as Robotics, Model UN, internships, soccer, and basketball to name a few. For a full list of all the clubs and activities we have to offer you can check out our clubs section of the website. We also highly value service learning and require 7 hours of service learning in order to graduate from SPP. Getting involved in these outside activities is a great way to learn new skills, have fun, and meet new people.

We are here to help. If you have questions, concerns, general comments, or just want to chat, there are plenty of staff and teachers you can talk to. Trudy Hill, our counselor, works with students on a variety of issues both academically and socially. Our Admissions Office staff can help with transcripts and PowerSchool (our grading and student information system) questions.

Finally, Mrs. Hasche, at the front desk, is great for general questions while you’re at school or can point you in the right direction for an answer.

*Please note: St. Paul Preparatory School uses Casio calculators. Any student enrolled in Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, or AP Statistics will be requested to use the FX-9860GII graphing calculator, which is available for check-out at St. Paul Prep (with a $20 refundable deposit).
